Maria Saracino
Born and raised in Ottawa, Maria worked as a graphic artist for 18 years. She discovered polymer clay in the mid 1990's and the creative possibilities of figurative sculptures. During that time, she was recognized by the Ontario Arts Council and asked to participate in their Uniquely Ontario exhibit in Toronto. That was the turning point in her career and the motivation to pursue her dream of working as an artist.
Her one-of-a-kind sculptures have been recognized by leading international publications and have won several awards as well as being included in museum exhibits and galleries across Canada and the United States.
Her biggest influences are Ron Mueck, Norman Rockwell, and Joe Fafard.
